The Monster Calendar is a non-traditional, fully handcrafted calendar designed as an immersive, interactive experience. Blending horror movie iconography, handmade textures, and playful interactivity, this piece transforms a functional object into an artistic collectible.
Each month is represented by a famous monster—from werewolves and witches to mummies and Dracula—brought to life through expressive watercolor illustrations, textured overlays, and 3D elements like fold-outs, sliders, or removable date markers. The visual style draws inspiration from classic horror posters and pulp comic aesthetics.
Rather than showing dates in a conventional grid, the calendar requires users to decipher the date using instructions hidden in each spread—evoking a sense of play and curiosity. The outer cover is painted with bold, gestural strokes in blood-red tones, wrapped in a canvas strap and wire hooks for a tactile, bound-in feel.
More than a calendar, this project is a time-based art piece, challenging the viewer to engage with time in a nonlinear, narrative way.
