SYN is an independent digital magazine that celebrates alternative culture, punk music, avant-garde fashion, and the bold voices often left on the fringe. The name "SYN" plays on dual meanings: a twist on “sin” to represent rebellion and rule-breaking and short for “synchronization”, capturing how the magazine stays in sync with evolving cultural movements.
🧷 Identity & Logo
The logo is a visual riff on fluidity and edge—a waveform-like type treatment that moves like a sine wave, echoing both sound and rhythm. It reflects the magazine's commitment to unconventional expression, and its curving form adds softness to an otherwise bold identity, nodding to both playful camp and underground elegance.
📖 UX & Flipbook Design
The magazine was designed as an interactive Flash-based flipbook, allowing users to virtually “turn” pages with a draggable arrow or clickable corners. A scalable zoom bar and repositioning functionality added tactile engagement to the reading experience.
This issue features Pussila, one of Miami Beach’s most beloved drag queens, in a candid and colorful interview that explores her roots, community work, and personal artistry. The editorial design uses hot pinks, ornate swirls, and dramatic imagery to reflect the vibrant spirit of its subject.
